Search Results Showing Google +1 Counts

Earlier in the month I wrote a blog entry advising that Google had released the availability for +1 buttons to every site on the web. Today I write to advise that in the USA users are beginning to see +1 counts in search results – regardless of whether they are logged into a Google Account or not, for example:

What this likely means is that eventually users across the world will start to see +1 counts when conducting a search. At this stage there appears to be very limited sites which have +1 counts associated with them, namely sites like Google and Facebook, however once more and more webmasters start to implement the +1 button and it gains in momentum, I expect that we will see more and more sites +1’d.

In an earlier blog titled Google’s +1 Button Experiment – Another New Social Feature I mentioned that it is likely that +1’s will likely have some effect on the sites that we visit from SERP’s. In some ways users may start to think that these sites are more ‘trustworthy’ than another. However, the downfall to that is that there does appear to be a loophole in that a site owner could have numerous Google Accounts and therefore login to each and +1 their site, therefore the +1 for that site is not necessarily a true count of a range of users who actually think it is +1 worthy.

Time will tell, however with Google constantly ‘testing’ things around the +1 button I think this is something that they are serious about and therefore you probably don’t want to miss out on!
