Junior Web Developer

We are seeking a motivated and creative developer / programmer with a passion for developing real-world commercial applications. The successful applicant will have a solid understanding of PHP and be an exponent of the LAMP development environment.

A strong practical understanding of PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Ajax and database technologies is essential, as is a flair for providing solid programming with feature-rich interfaces focused on customer usability.

The role:

You will be creating and improving functionality for our software as well as being involved in:

• Continuous improvement to our core frameworks and backend systems
• Suggesting and developing solutions to improve our software
• Needs analysis to scope project requirements
• Bespoke development to meet specific client requirements
• Adding additional functionality to Orbit, our popular Content Management System
• Providing input to the direction of our software development
• Maintenance of our internal Network Infrastructure

Shared Help Desk and Support Duties as part of a team

Skills and abilities:

- PHP – Some commercial programming experience
- A relevant tertiary qualification or significant commercial experience
- JavaScript 
- Solid understanding of HTML and CSS
- Experience with a variety of Content Management Systems.
- Understanding of OOP principles in PHP5
- Using version control software (Subversion)
- Knowledge of mod_rewrite in Apache
- Knowledge of http fundamentals (request, response headers)
- SysAdmin skills in a Linux Virtualised Environment (Webmin/Plesk)
- SysAdmin Skills in a Windows Server Environment (in-house)
- Knowledge of Network Infrastructure
- A understanding of Search Marketing fundamentals (although in depth training will be provided)
- Knowledge of Server Virtualisation (MS Hyper V) would be advantageous

The position is full time and based in New Plymouth in beautiful Taranaki.
